How to Improve Your EPC Rating

We have put together some simple tips on how to improve your Energy Performance Certificate rating. Please read this advice before we attend your property for your domestic EPC assessment:

• Low energy lighting. Try and make sure as many of your fixed light fittings as possible have low energy lamps fitted. This will improve the EPC rating.
• Hot water tank insulation. If you have a hot water tank, make sure there is plenty of insulation around it. Good insulation can make a significant difference to the EPC rating.
• Loft insulation evidence. If we cannot see the loft is insulated — because we cannot gain loft access or the loft is boarded over — we have to report insulation as 'unknown', which could have a negative effect on the EPC rating. Please have any paperwork available to prove loft insulation is fitted.
• Boiler and heating documentation. Have your boiler make and model, heating controls and any installation certificates to hand so the most efficient options can be recorded accurately.
• Double glazing and improvements. Keep receipts or certificates for double glazing, wall insulation or solar panels — documented improvements can be reflected in your rating.
